About Tom C. Lane, Sr.
(aka “The Argumentor” )
After mentoring from one of Oklahoma’s best trial practitioners, Tom Lane decided to strike out and open his own firm. He became a solo-practitioner in the fall of 1995, and he was labeled as a very aggressive and independent trial lawyer by The Sapulpa Herald, “a maverick.” Tom Lane developed his network of associates and professionals, and began practicing with a philosophy of “Equal Justice for All.” Within months, the firm started growing and is now located on the “Main Street” of Sapulpa, Oklahoma near the Chamber of Commerce and County Seat.
While attending Tulsa University College of Law, Tom “The Argumentor” Lane, Sr., began his legal career as a legal intern in 1987 in rural Creek County, Oklahoma. After graduating from law school in the spring of 1988, he began practicing law in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, which is located approximately 15 minutes from downtown Tulsa.
We are located in the heart of downtown Sapulpa and the Sapulpa Main Street District, which is the heart of Creek County activity and politics. Tom C. Lane, Sr. was born and raised in the panhandle of Texas. He was born in Borger on December 8, 1948, and raised in a small oil town called Phillips (after the oil Barron Frank Phillips and Phillips 66). He grew up in the oil field camp south of Guyman, was a boy scout, played trumpet in the band, and played high school athletics — football, basketball and tennis. The Phillips athletic department had several successful campaigns of getting to the state playoffs several years in a row before he graduated in 1967.
After graduating from Phillips High School, Tom C. Lane, Sr. attended Texas A&M University where he was a leader in the Corp of Cadets and graduated in 1971. In 1969, Tom C. Lane, Sr. married Nanette Marie Betts, who was the daughter of Clyde A. and E. Florene Betts in Hershey, which is a small town in the State of Nebraska. The couple had two children, Trevor (1972) and “T.C.” (1981-2003) before he decided to leave Laredo, Texas and attend law school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
